Samuel’s Formal Wear opens second store in Rotterdam

The second location of Samuels Formal Wear opened in Rotterdam Square Mall on June 10.

Samuels Formal Wear sells and rents tuxedos and suits, as well as prom and wedding gowns and dresses for formal functions. They also have vests and striped ties.

Owner Sam Vavala opened his first shop in 1989 on Hamburg Street. He decided to open a second location after seeing a greater need for formal wear in Montgomery and Schenectady Counties, he said.

Samuels Formal Wear will host H. Freeman Custom Clothier Company for a custom clothing trunk show this Saturday. The show will feature suits, sportcoats and trousers at discounted rates. The event is by appointment only on a first-come, first-served basis. Call 382-8262 to set up an appointment.

Henry Rodriguez’s Casey Key retreat for sale

“It was so much property, set way back from the road, and it had a lot of waterfront,” he said. “The house itself was built in 1940 and had been renovated and was really not much at all. I knew we would have to completely renovate the thing, but that didn’t matter. I had found this amazing, big private place for us make our home.”

Rodriguez and his wife, Susanne, spent the next two years reworking the home into a Old World Spanish villa (elegantly rustic) with the help of architect Thorning Little.

Trust In Global Institutions Is Fraying And Breaking

Two major trends are reversing, and trust in centralized institutions is eroding.

I tend to be years early on identifying trends, but three that will make a difference going forward are what I call “The Three Ds”: Delegitimization, Definancialization and Deglobalization.

Broadly speaking, the global economy and thus globalization and its sibling, financialization, depend on the legitimacy of centralized institutions. These include nation-state governments, international organizations such as the IMF, central banks, the mainstream global media, and various Central State agencies tasked with reporting data accurately, for example the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in the U.S.

Cheap Memory Means Big Savings

In 2005, The New York Times reported that, “A 512-megabyte memory card can sell for as little as $34, though it is generally about $50.” Today, you can buy a 16-gigabyte flash memory card for less than $25. That’s a drop of 97%! In addition to helping you post more on Facebook, this cheap memory can save you big. Before memory was this cheap, I spent too much time writing down notes and recommendations to remind myself of what to buy/read/ next. Now, I can just take a pic for later. Here are some ideas on saving big with the click of a button:

  • Snap pics of books: Instead of reaching for that bestseller at the bookstore, snap a pic as a reminder to check it out at the library. No more ISBNs or writing down the author. I hav

Taking out a loan for a new car requires the same homework as purchasing a house

In New York Daily News Jean Chatzky discusses the lack of research done on behalf of the consumer on finding the best financing for their new car, in comparison to the research done on the car itself.
“We look at miles per gallon, safety ratings and interior space. We take it for a test drive. And then when it comes time to sign on the dotted line, we do it, sometimes without a thought to whether the interest rate is the best we can get.”
Chatzky continues to explain that simple research on the value of their credit score can save consumers a lot of money over the life of their new purchase. Read more…
