Indiana business award program now accepting nominations

The Indiana Companies to Watch awards program is now accepting nominations and applications.

The program recognizes privately-held Indiana businesses with between six and 150 full-time employees and between $750,000 and $100 million in annual revenue or working capital.

Companies can either apply in their own name or be nominated by another party. Nominations are due March 29, and applications are due April 12.

A panel of judges will review the applications and select winners based on past growth, projected success, innovation, technology application and community involvement.

Winners will be announced in July, and an awards dinner will take place Aug.

Fowler leaving for Iowa, says she was squeezed out of CVB

The executive director of the Evansville Convention & Visitors Bureau, who has been on administrative leave since last month, is headed to a new job in Iowa, claiming she felt squeezed out of Evansville by Mayor Jonathan Weinzapfel.

Until now, neither

Marilee Fowler nor Joe Vezzoso — president of the Vanderburgh County Convention and Visitors Commission — would say why Fowler had been on leave since Feb. 11.

An interview with the Cedar Rapids (Iowa) Gazette sheds some light on the issue.

In that interview, which was conducted Monday, Fowler, 65, said she felt an important project was pushed aside by Weinzapfel’s urgency to build Evansville’s Downtown arena. Fowler
