Meet my dog, Otis. That’s him as a puppy on the right.
He’s grown a bit bigger now, but he still behaves like a puppy.
He has many cute habits. One of which inspired this business idea. You see this morning I found him lying in what looked a most uncomfortable way, squeezed into a space that looked far too small for him. I would have wondered why if it wasn’t for the fact that he was lying in the sun.
You see Otis is a sun worshiper. When he’s on the office with me he loves nothing more than lying in the sunlight that streams through the windows. As the day goes on and the sun moves, he’ll periodically get up and move to stay in the sunlight. He’ll squeeze into uncomfortable, spaces to get his fix of the sun and when it comes to going out to sunbathe in the garden he’s always first in line.
So it occurred to me that If there are other sun worshipping dogs out there, there might be a market for sun loungers for dogs.
However this business idea was originally intended as a bit of “Friday Fun”, however it seems that that people do actually sell pet sun loungers. Mostly it seems they are sold (or offered for sale at least) through Gumtree and Ebay.
Then again there was someone selling treadmills for dogs on Dragon’s Den not long ago and we’ve also seen cardboard cat playhouses on The Apprentice so perhaps it’s not a totally barking idea!
