ERIN McCRACKEN / Courier & Press The fully automated 24-hour, self-service kiosk at the Don’s Claytons DCI Fine DryCleaning at the corner of Third and Main streets Downtown allows customers to drop off and pick up their dry cleaning any time of the day or night. It is on the main floor of Meridian Plaza condominiums.

EVANSVILLE It’s showtime for Don’s Claytons DCI Fine DryCleaning’s new fully automated drop-off and pickup facility at Main and Third streets Downtown.

A ribbon-cutting is planned for 11:45 a.m. today, with representatives of the Chamber of Commerce of Southwest Indiana expected to be on hand.

The new high-tech center is located in 1,200 square feet of space on the main floor of the Meridian Plaza condominiums (former deJong’s building) on the northwest corner of the intersection.

Steve Schmitt, Don’s Claytons owner, will explain the operation of the new high-tech “fetch” system during a ribbon-cutting today at 11:45 a.m.

The technology behind the dry cleaner’s new “fetch” system will be explained by Steve Schmitt, Don’s Claytons owner.

Customers use credit cards to access the store and then, after providing correct information, select “Dropping off” or “Picking up” on a computer screen.

A chamber with a drop-off bag is provided for the customer to deposit items that need cleaning.

When “Picking up” is chosen, a conveyor retrieves the customer’s order and places it in a second chamber, which the customer accesses by opening a door.

The dry cleaner recently kicked off a soft opening at the center, which is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Plans for the center were first announced last December in the Courier & Press.
