Local restaurants starting to ‘click’

Click4AMeal, an online food-ordering service introduced in March 2009 by locally owned Innovative Computing Systems, is the next best thing to waving a magic wand to get restaurant food quickly and conveniently.

Customers to 10 locally owned restaurants that have contracts with Click4AMeal can order via the iPhone, a computer or other Internet-access sources.

Some customers place their orders via the restaurants’ Web sites, and within 30 to 45 minutes, on average, pick up the food at the restaurant or have it delivered if delivery is available.

One Click4AMeal option allows favorite orders to be saved and reordered with a few mouse clicks.

“All my stores (three in Evansville and one at Newburgh) get daily orders on the Internet,” said David Nix, co-owner with his brother, Dan, of the locally owned Pizza King chain, which has a contract with Click4AMeal.

“It has been good for us.”

“Internet ordering is a big deal nationwide,” said David Nix, who is glad that the Tri-State is getting on board.

“Being a small independent operator, we don’t necessarily have resources to do this on our own. Click4AMeal allows us to participate on the same level with national restaurant franchises.”

Nix said the Click4AMeal system is interfaced with Pizza King’s cash register system.

“We went the extra mile with it and got it interfaced.”

Nix didn’t disclose the cost of the contract with Click4AMeal.

“It is very cost-effective,” he said. “… It is a very fair price.”

Nina Fadgen, brand manager of Click4AMeal, said the online-order option is catching on in the Tri-State as part of the national restaurant industry trend.

Online ordering, a trend in the restaurant industry, is being enjoyed by customers of the following locally owned restaurants, which have contracts with Evansville-headquartered Click4AMeal.

She said Click4AMeal has grown in the number of participating restaurants, food orders and customer-users by 300 percent every quarter since it was launched locally.

On average, Fadgen said, the number of online orders represents 5 percent to 10 percent of a restaurant’s overall business.

And, as the word spreads, the number grows.

“‘Ninety seven percent of Americans are ready to turn to self-service technology, including the online restaurant food ordering,’” she said, quoting a study by the National Restaurant Association.

“Restaurants are the No. 1 local search terms on engines, such as Yahoo! and Google.”

Fadgen said she is pleased that so many local restaurants have decided to be a part of something that has proved to improve customer satisfaction and a restaurant’s profitability.

Mike Stepto, owner of Stepto’s BBQ Shack on Evansville’s North Side, said he signed on with ClicK4AMeal about a year ago.

He said he was pleased with the response to the system from the start.

Now that he recently began offering delivery service, the online business has increased substantially, Stepto said.

His online clientele includes residential customers and companies that order for catered lunches.

Stepto agreed with Nix that the program is cost-effective.
