BOONVILLE, Ind. After a little more than six years of wear, the Walmart Supercenter at 1115 American Way in Boonville, Ind., is undergoing an extensive renovation and redesign.

Work on the store — which opened in February 2004 — began 10 days ago.

It is expected to be complete by this June, said Gary Nook, store manager.

He confirmed that the store won’t be physically expanded with a building addition. But, it will be rearranged for achieving wider aisles and better visibility of the different departments.

Nook said the renovation will also include the installation of new tile flooring.

Neither Nook or Ashley Harris, a Walmart spokeswoman employed by Mitchell Communications Group in Fayetteville, Ark., were able to provide the total expected cost of the renovation.

Harris said the Boonville store is among 80 percent of Walmart stores, which the corporation plans to have renovated and redesigned over the next five years.

She said some other Walmart stores in Southwestern Indiana as well as in Southern Illinois and Western Kentucky will also undergo renovations and redesigns.

Harris said she had none other than the Boonville store in the Tri-State scheduled for the process at the present time.

Both she and Nook said most of the renovation will occur in the quieter overnight hours at the Boonville location, a 24-hour operation.

The store is expected to remain open throughout the renovation and redesign.

It is hiring approximately 80 additional associates to help with the remodel.

Nook said the new design is based on feedback from customers,

“It will feature a clean, open and bright new look in the store with wider aisles, low-profile shelving, a new bright interior paint scheme and lighting, and easy-to-read signage to help customers find the products they need … We are excited to bring an improved shopping experience.

“We listened to our customers and are redesigning the store to make shopping at Walmart even easier.”

Nook said every department will be updated, including with all new shelving, signing, flooring and product assortment.

“The store will also feature a new layout designed to make shopping for everyday items easier and faster by aligning the products customers purchase the most.”

Maps of the store layout will be available at the entrance, and directional signage will be located throughout the store.
