Aztar’s numbers reflect statewide downturn

EVANSVILLE Casino Aztar and the French Lick Casino saw nearly 184,000 visitors between them last month, according to the Indiana Gaming Commission.

The commission’s monthly report, released Tuesday, presents an overview of operations at all of Indiana’s casinos — how many people visited each facility, how much those visitors spent on games, how much they won, and how much each casino paid in taxes.

According to the report, Aztar had 105,134 visitors in February. The casino kept $8.1 million of the $85.9 million that guests spent on electronic gaming machines. On table games, the casino kept $1.3 million of the $5.8 million spent.

Aztar paid the state $2.7 million in admission and wagering taxes, the report said.

Stacy McNeill, Aztar’s marketing director, said the casino was pleased with its February performance. Aztar’s numbers were down from the same month a year prior, McNeill said, but she pointed out that gaming declined statewide.

In February 2009, Aztar had 111,875 visitors who spent $95.4 million on electronic gaming machines and $6.5 million on table games.

McNeill said February’s snowstorms contributed to the decline in visitors.

French Lick reported 78,314 visitors. That casino kept $5.5 million of the $63.6 million spent on coin-operated machines. It also kept $1.1 million of the $5.2 million spent on table games.

French Lick paid $1.8 million in admission and wagering taxes.

All told, Indiana’s 13 casinos saw 2.1 million visitors last month, about 40,000 fewer than in February 2009.
